Too early to criticise Indian bowlers: Kapil

New Delhi: Former captain Kapil Dev on Wednesday came to the rescue of under-fire Indian bowlers' after their poor show in the World Cup, saying these were the same bowlers who won India many matches in the past two years.
India's batting was phenomenal in their first two games against Bangladesh and England, but bowling was a big let down with the bowlers getting smashed all over the park.
In the first match, the Indian batsmen piled up a mammoth 370 but Bangladesh replied with a solid batting performance reaching 283. In the second match, England, led by their captain Andrew Strauss, shred the Indian bowling attack to pieces as they tied the game after being set 339 for victory.
"If you talk about last two games' bowling performance, then our bowling effort was not upto the standard. But if our bowlers have fared poorly in the first two matches, it doesn't mean that they are not good enough to take wickets," said Kapil, the captain of the 1983 World Cup winning team.
"In the last two years, these are the bowlers who have won many matches for India with their good show. I really don't want to criticise them," he added.
However, Kapil, admits that criticism is warranted to some extent as ideally India should have won the match against England after setting an impregnable total of 338.
"Yes, upto one level, criticism is warranted. Even after scoring 338, we should have not lost or tied the game.
"Somebody scores a good hundred and you post a good total of 338 on board and then you come out with a tie, it's not ideal. According to me, England won that match. They played better cricket than India. It was tie and we were happy," he added.
